Inside Robert Eisele Productions

THE GREAT DEBATERS, the Golden Globe Best Picture nominee starring Denzel Washington, chronicles the struggles of a black college debate team in the Jim Crow South of the 1930s. LASTLIGHT, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Forest Whitaker, portrays the troubled yet deepening friendship between a condemned man and a prison guard. Both films, written by Robert Eisele, reflect the creative journey of this award winning writer-producer and his commitment to dramas of character and substance.

When Eisele won the Writers Guild of America’s Paul Selvin Award in 2008, he quoted Abby Mann, Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Judgement at Nuremberg”: “A writer has an obligation not only to entertain but to comment on the world in which he lives.” He also quoted Samuel Goldwyn: “If you want to send a message, use Western Union.” The balance between substance and entertainment has been evident in Robert Eisele’s work from his first produced credit, which won the Humanitas Prize, to his ESPN film “3: The Dale Earnhardt Story,” the second most watched cable movie of the year.

The tone of his writing ranges from dark to humorous, tragic to inspirational. The genres he explores include social dramas, biography, history, sports stories, action, fantasy/sci-fi and mystery, all bearing the Robert Eisele brand. In a career that spans a generation, he continues working on an active roster of projects as both writer and producer in features, series, television movies and theater.
