Inside Robert Eisele Productions

THE GREAT DEBATERS, the Golden Globe Best Picture nominee starring Denzel Washington, chronicles the struggles of a black college debate team in the Jim Crow South of the 1930s. THE SENIOR, starring Michael Chiklis and Mary Stuart Masterson, tells the story of a man who played his senior year of college football at the age of 59, driven by the memories of his abusive childhood. LAST LIGHT, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Forest Whitaker, portrays the troubled yet deepening friendship between a condemned man and a prison guard. These films, written by Robert Eisele, reflect the creative journey of an award-winning writer-producer and his commitment to stories of character and substance. When Eisele won the Writers Guild of America’s Paul Selvin Award, he quoted Oscar-winning screenwriter Abby Mann: “A writer has an obligation not only to entertain but to comment on the world in which he lives.”

He also quoted Samuel Goldwyn: “If you want to send a message, use Western Union.” The balance between substance and entertainment has been evident in Robert Eisele’s work from his first produced credit, which won the Humanitas Prize, to his ESPN film “3: The Dale Earnhardt Story,” starring Barry Pepper and J.K. Simmons, the most watched cable movie of its year. The tone of his writing ranges from dark to comedic and tragic to inspirational. The genres he explores include drama, action, history, sports, biography, sci-fi and horror, all bearing the Robert Eisele brand. In a career that spans a generation, he continues working on an active roster of projects as writer-producer in features, series and the theater.
